A prominent Republican lawmaker is demanding immediate action at the U.S.-Mexico border. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) has called for the removal of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas through impeachment. Emmer argues that Mayorkas’s failure to address the border crisis adequately necessitates his removal from office.
In an interview with Breitbart News, Emmer expressed his frustration with the overwhelmed southern border. He views it as a clear example of the Biden administration’s gross negligence. Emmer highlighted the alarming consequences of this inaction, including missing children and individuals on the terrorist watch list entering the country.
This demand for impeachment comes after President Biden’s decision to lift the Title 42 border barrier, a policy enacted by former President Trump to address the coronavirus pandemic. Emmer believes that this decision has exacerbated the situation at the border by removing one of the last tools available to manage illegal migration.
The numbers speak volumes. Since President Biden took office and reversed many of Trump’s immigration and border security policies, more than five million illegal migrants have been encountered by U.S. border officials. Emmer sees this as a deliberate failure to act, which he believes justifies impeachment proceedings.
Emmer also accuses the Biden administration of having “blood on their hands,” echoing the concerns expressed by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX). McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has criticized Mayorkas for the potential child abuse resulting from inadequate vetting of sponsors for migrant children.
This is not the first time Republicans have pursued impeachment against Mayorkas. Articles of impeachment were filed in February, and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) recently introduced a new article accusing Mayorkas of violating his oath of office. Rep. Pat Fallon (R-Texas) filed the initial articles of impeachment in January.
Emmer firmly believes that this issue merits serious consideration, irrespective of the Senate’s stance. He calls for Mayorkas to either resign or face impeachment. Emmer emphasizes that the border crisis is a real and pressing concern that demands action, not mere political theatrics.
