Former Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby has recently faced charges of fraud and perjury, as well as accusations of falsely claiming COVID-19-related financial hardship to withdraw $90,000 from her retirement accounts, and lying on mortgage applications by failing to disclose unpaid federal taxes.
Mosby’s trial has been delayed several times, with her entire defense team quitting last month, further postponing the trial.
Recently, a resurfaced 2018 video clip of Vice President Kamala Harris endorsing Mosby has added fuel to the fire, with many questioning the Vice President’s judgment.
As State’s Attorney, Mosby has served two high-profile terms, which included an attempt to prosecute multiple officers in the 2015 death of Freddie Gray. Mosby also controversially directed her office to stop prosecuting quality-of-life crimes such as drug possession and prostitution at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, arguing that it was necessary to reduce the chance of outbreaks in jails and prisons.
Mosby’s case highlights the serious flaws in the current political system and how politicians can abuse their power and manipulate the system for personal gain.
The American people deserve leaders who are accountable and transparent, not those who are willing to lie and cheat to get ahead.
As Mosby’s trial is slated to begin in November, it’s important for Republican voters to pay attention to this situation and demand more from their elected officials.
