Democrats Ignore Actual Attacks on Democracy, Choose to Score Political Points Instead

As Democrats continue to push the false narrative of a “violent” and “insurrectionist” rally at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, they have seemingly lost sight of the actual attacks on democracy that are occurring around the world.

Just this past Sunday, supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the country’s Congress, Presidential Palace, and Supreme Court, causing destruction and chaos.

Yet, instead of condemning this blatant attack on democracy and the rule of law, Democrats like Rep. Ilhan Omar and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries have chosen to use the opportunity to push their own political agenda by calling for the extradition of Bolsonaro from Florida, where he is currently residing.

It is clear that Democrats are more interested in scoring political points and attacking their political opponents, rather than standing up for democratic values. While they were quick to baselessly blame President Trump for the events at the U.S. Capitol, they have remained conspicuously silent on the actions of the violent mobs in Brazil.

Furthermore, it is hypocritical for Democrats to call for the extradition of Bolsonaro, a former head of state, when they have allowed individuals like WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and former Edward Snowden to seek asylum in the U.S. despite their alleged crimes.

It is time for Democrats to put aside their partisan politics and stand up for the principles of democracy and the rule of law, regardless of who is in power. The American people deserve better than this kind of shallow, self-serving behavior.
