President Biden has once again come under fire for his insensitive remarks regarding the Nashville school shooting. In a press conference held on Tuesday, Biden was asked whether he agreed with the theory that Christians were specifically targeted in Monday’s shooting rampage. The shooter, a 28-year-old, killed three adults and three children in a Christian grade school. Biden’s response was a smirk and a blunt “I have no idea.”
When a reporter mentioned that Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., believes that the shooting was in fact a hate crime against Christians, Biden joked, “Well, I probably don’t then.” He then added, “No, I’m joking. I have no idea.”
The president’s seemingly lighthearted tone surrounding the shooting has been criticized by many who believe he is being insensitive to the victims and their families.
Biden’s remark came on the heels of his previous faux pas when he joked about eating ice cream before addressing the shooting. His apparent lack of empathy and seemingly playful tone before addressing the tragedy has caused an uproar among many Americans who want their president to show more respect for the victims and their families.
