President Biden has once again made headlines for his confusing and muddled comments, this time during a Women’s History Month event.
Biden, along with Vice President Kamala Harris, First Lady Jill Biden, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, gave a speech at the event. While highlighting his work in the Violence Against Women Act, Biden made a major slip-up, saying, “You know but this builds on other steps you’ve taken and we’ve taken, like the most significant gun safety law in 30 years to help keep guns out of the hands of domestic political advisors.”
The White House transcript later corrected the statement to say, “convicted domestic abusers.”
Twitter users were quick to react to the gaffe, with many slamming the President’s comment and criticizing his communication skills. The hashtag #DomesticPoliticalAdvisors began trending on Twitter, with many users sharing memes and jokes about the slip-up. Others called for the President to undergo a cognitive test, questioning his mental acuity.
This is not the first time Biden has made confusing and controversial statements during his presidency. In February, he boasted during a speech at the White House that “more than half the women” on his team “are women.”
During the same Women’s History Month event, Vice President Harris also gave a speech with a peculiar soundbite, using circular or repetitive rhetoric that has often been referred to as “word salads” by her critics.
Biden’s missteps have raised concerns among both his supporters and detractors, with some questioning his ability to effectively communicate and lead the country.
As President, Biden will need to ensure that he is able to convey his message clearly and effectively to avoid further confusion and misinterpretation.
